In 2017 I set myself the goal to restore or re-purpose 100 pieces of discarded furniture or decor and rehouse them.
I do it for fun, not for profit. I like seeing the difference a new pattern or a fresh color can make. I like seeing wood grain restored to its full glory and I dislike seeing functional and well-crafted goods go to waste. It’s a hobby that satisfies my lifelong interest in decorating and design.
For years I viewed other people’s trash piles as a potential treasure trove, occasionally picking up pieces that I would bring home and transform. And for years my design urges far outweighed the time I had to satisfy them. Having three kids in two years and raising them to adulthood is demanding; but now they all can drive and one has gone to college, it’s easier to find balance.
I am not a trained craftsman or professional painter; I am a perfectionist with nearly forty years experience in DIY design, painting, sewing, and more. As my father always said: “If a job’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well.” I consider each of these jobs to be worth doing and I do them carefully and with attention to detail. I hope you like how they turn out as much as I enjoy doing it.
